LG Display Co., Ltd.  was incorporated in 1985 under its original name of LG Soft, Ltd. as a wholly owned subsidiary of LG Electronics Inc. In 1998, LG Electronics Inc. and LG Semicon Co., Ltd. transferred their respective Thin Film Transistor Liquid Crystal Display (“TFT-LCD”) related business to the Company and its main business is to manufacture and sell TFT-LCD panels. In July 1999, LG Electronics Inc. and Koninklijke Philips Electronics N.V. (“Philips”) entered into a joint venture agreement. Pursuant to the agreement, the Company changed its name to LG.Philips LCD Co., Ltd. However, on February 29, 2008, the Company changed its name from LG.Philips LCD Co., Ltd. to LG Display Co., Ltd. based upon the approval of shareholders at the general shareholders’ meeting on the same date as a result of the decrease in Philips’s share interest in the Company and the possibility of its business expansion to Organic Light Emitting Diode (“OLED”) and Flexible Display products. In March 2009, Philips, which used to be one of the major shareholders of the Company, sold all of its share holdings, 47,225,000 shares, of the Company. As of September 30, 2009, LG Electronics Inc. owns 37.9% (135,625 thousand shares) of the Company’s common shares.
