Lumos Networks Corp. provides fiber-based network services in the Mid-Atlantic region. It operates in two segments, Competitive and Rural Local Exchange Carrier (RLEC). The Competitive segment offers transport services to retail and carrier customers; and on-net fiber-based services, including integrated voice and data services, Metro Ethernet, high speed Internet access, and carrier transport services. As of December 31, 2011, this segment had an approximately 5,800 route-mile fiber network, 122,000 competitive local exchange carrier lines, and 35,700 broadband network connections. The RLEC segment provides wireline communications services to residential and enterprise customers in the western Virginia cities of Waynesboro and Covington, as well as Alleghany, Augusta, and Botetourt counties. As of the above date, this segment operated approximately 33,200 rural local exchange carrier telephone access lines. The company serves a range of customers, including telecommunication carriers, enterprises, and other business customers and residential customers. Lumos Networks Corp. is headquartered in Waynesboro, Virginia.
